Originated in Australia, 1868
- Description: Granny Smith are green in color and extremely tart. They are rounded with a smooth contour. It varies in color from a dark to medium green and sometimes has a slight blush.
- Parentage: Believed to be descended from French crab-apples cultivated by Australian Grandmother Maria Ann Smith.
- Availability: Harvested in September and October. Available year round.
- Usage: Excellent for pies, snacking, salads and freezing.
