Golden Delicious
Originated in Clay County West Virginia, 1914
- Description: The Golden Delicious is not related to the Red Delicious, but was introduced by the same family, the Stark Brothers. Golden's are highly aromatic with a sweet, spritely flavor and a crisp-juicy flesh.
- Parentage: Uncertain, may be traceable to Golden Reinette and Grimes Golden. It's the all-purpose apple.
- Availability: Harvested in September and October. Available year round.
- Usage: Golden's are great for eating out of hand, baking (a great pie apple) and salads. They have a tangy-sweet flavor and are excellent for fresh eating as well as sauces and pie.
