Rainier Blueberries

Blueberries

Rainier Fruit Company has a window of opportunity to offer blueberries when supplies are short elsewhere. We're increasing production from mid June to early August in order to meet this need. Long summer days, cool nights and our fruit experience allow us to bring large, sweet, firm berries to market.

Central Washington is quickly becoming a major growing region for blueberries. Although not previously grown on the east side of the Cascade Mountain range because of our alkaline soils, we are able to produce exceptional fruit through careful management of the soil environment. Studious attention to mulching, organic applications and water management produce beautiful, delicious fruit.

Blueberries are very good for you

Blueberries are a healthy and convenient food. No pitting or peeling is required, simply rinse and enjoy!

Blueberries are low fat, sodium free, and a good source of both fiber and vitamin C. A one cup serving of fresh blueberries will give you five grams of fiber and 15% of your daily vitamin C, all for only 80 calories.

Preparation

Since there's no peeling, pitting, coring or cutting, blueberries are practically the easiest fruit to prepare and serve. For optimal storage, berries should be refrigerated, but not washed until needed. Once chilled, they will maintain their quality from 10 days to two weeks. If freezing blueberries, place berries one layer deep on sheet pans. Freeze, then place in freezer containers for storage. Remember that both frozen and fresh berries should be rinsed and drained just before serving.
