Rainier Fruit Company

Community Outreach

As a company, Rainier Fruit believes the best way to strengthen our communities is by producing excellence. This philosophy is best seen through the efforts of our employees and their dedication to worthwhile programs throughout our Valley.

Our employees have volunteered countless hours to supporting programs that promote children's growth and education, as well as programs that help individuals and families when they need it the most.

4th Annual Wellness Day

Our 4th Annual Wellness Day took place on Thursday, May 13 and our focus was on Heart Health.

Our Wellness Team began planning the event several months in advance; contacting a variety of complimentary Heart Health vendors. Our local community college sent several of their nursing students to assist our onsite nurse in providing BMI, blood pressure and blood sugar checks. They actually were able to diagnose 4 employees with high or severely high blood sugar. "We feel that finding those cases of high blood sugar made the day a complete success," says Melissa Henyan, one of the Wellness Day coordinators.

Employees were treated to a demonstration on making heart-healthy juice from fruits and vegetables! Additionally they learned about composting and how to start a vegetable garden from master gardeners , received information about the Yakima Greenway recreational area, found helpful tips regarding employee insurance, participated in a yoga session and were exposed to many other services available throughout the Yakima Valley beneficial to maintaining a healthy heart.

Selah Community Days Parade

Again this year Rainier proudly participated in our hometown Selah Community Days Parade. Fifty of our employees volunteered to decorate a float and hand out apples all along the parade route. We filled 200 totes full of apples and we passed out every single one!

Our volunteers noted that parade attendees kept saying there is nothing more refreshing than a cool, crisp, apple on a hot day. And some even remarked on how great it was to have something other than candy.

Capitol Kids

Rainier Fruit has been helping underwrite the Capitol Kids Theatre program for several years now. Our involvement helps pay for the tickets of children that may otherwise be unable to attend and fund bus transportation from the schools. Additionally, part of the underwriting helps to support Gus, the theater mascot, tour of classrooms teaching the children about theater and theater etiquette. The Capitol Theatre program was developed to bring theater and arts to children in schools whose arts programs have been severely cut due to budget constraints.

Rainier Fruit employees generously volunteer their time to greet the children after each performance and hand out 3 count bags of Fuji apples. We hand out thousands of bags during the two daily programs.

Rainier Fruit participates in 26th annual Gap2Gap Yakima Relay

Rainier Fruit Company entered three teams in the 26th running of the Gap2Gap relay on June 5th in Yakima, WA representing individuals from all departments.

Rainier Fruit was on hand fielding teams for a third consecutive year and for the second time put together a group of employee volunteers and family members who were camped out throughout the mountain bike section to help riders stay on course. Gap-to-Gap volunteer coordinator, Mark Cleaver said "We cannot thank everyone at Rainier Fruit enough for their support this year. It's obvious to see that they have something special going on in their company by the willingness and enthusiasm of employees to help out this community event."

Team members encouraged--and harassed--each other to stay on track with training. Rainier has found it to be a great company-wide team building event not only for the athletes, but volunteer and spectator employees as well.

Operation Harvest

Since 1982, Operation Harvest, one of Yakima Valley's largest food drives, has helped stock shelves of area food banks for the winter. The annual event takes place the first Saturday in October.

Rainier Fruit Company and its employees were proud to participate in the annual food drive by producing posters, flyers, and banners to further promote the event and encourage participation.

Rainier employees donated food and volunteered their time to gather and organize the food during the event located at Yakima's Salvation Army.
